It was extremely interesting to observe how whales live and behave, and the fact that the whales are so elusive makes them especially unique. They are the largest creatures to ever live, yet people know little about how they behave. No experts know, for instance, how deep whales can dive. Due to the mysterious nature of the whale, the National History Museum in England has always focused on whales, with the founder deciding to put the blue whales exhibit in the middle of the museum. However, the whales, throughout history, has faced many troubling times. For instance, the whaling era in the 1890s for the blubber in the whales led to the death of hundreds of thousands of whales and in recent years, illegal hunting of whales has led to there being only 50 blue whales left in the world. The museum wants people to protect these mysterious creatures from illegal hunting so that they will not go extinct, for people know so little about them and it would be a shame for them to disappear before people fully understood them.
Whales are incredibly interesting. I cannot wait to see how scientists find out more about them and how they live. Thank you for leaving me with a certain sense of wonder and curiosity of the blue whale.
ReplyDeleteIt is truly saddening that humans are killing so many whales. For there to be only 50 whales in the world, the hunters must have hunted recklessly and tirelessly. I was lucky enough to see these whale exhibitions once and they were HUGE. Their size put me in awe and made me realize the beauty of them. Thank you for your beautiful and informative post!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that so many whales were illegally hunted in the late 19th century. Very cool information! I feel like I was there to read it myself.
