After walking through the museum I discovered the many unique pieces art and intricate wall and ceiling designs within the building. The museum stands in Saint Petersburg, Russia and includes many prestigious colors, such blue, silver, and tons of gold. The gold within the museum and the pure size and detail represents the wealth of the creator. The museum is a piece of art itself, even without the artworks and paintings hanging on the walls. As you linger around the building and look up at the roof, you can see the amazing detail and intricacy put into the designs. The ceilings reminded me of a cathedral and the style starts back from that of the Renaissance. There are pillars and arches which hints back to Western European history. Throughout the main museum complex, there are godly figures and designs on the ceilings. In addition, the buildings contains many nude statues, depicting the realism of the time period. Although some have no clothes, others are fully clothed and dressed with expensive cloaks, showing the clothing designs during the period. A specific piece of artwork that stuck out to both of us was: The Peacock Clock, found in the Pavilion Hall. The Peacock Clock originated from Great Britain in 1766 and was crafted out of gilded bronze and silver by the Enlgish jeweller and mechanic, James Cox. A painting that we discovered in the Hall of Italian Renaissance Art was the Adornation of the Christ Child, with Sts Barbara and Martin. The piece was illustrated by Botticini, Raffaello di Francesco in Italy crica 1512. Overall, the museum demonstrates the ornate designs of the period as well as the unparalleled pieces of artwork.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more when you said the museum itself was a piece of art! The designs including the colors and shapes all contribute to the grandeur. The Peacock Clock really demonstrated the presence of trade during the 18th century and brought history closer to the visitors.

  3. I definitely agree that the museum is very beautiful, it has a collection of art from everywhere, as far as France and Great Britain. It is a museum that astonishes people with the size of its collection. How it has 3000 paintings which is an incredible amount.

  4. I appreciate how instead of describing the art of the museum you describe the museum as a whole as a piece of art as well. It would have been nice to include a photo of the museum within your blog though.

  5. What a splendid take on this assignment. Most people talked about individual paintings, while you guys thought outside of the box. Your descriptions of the architecture itself of the museum where enlightening and unique to the class. Mei and I loved the phrase, "The museum is a piece of art itself, even without the artworks and paintings hanging on the walls" (Steven & Shaan), because it encapsulates your whole idea perfectly.

  6. I love how you decided to focus on the museum instead of an individual piece. I can vividly imagine the museum itself through reading your description of it, and I believe that you did a great job in bringing me to the museum.
